One of the exciting new fields in remote sensing is in the area of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), commonly referred to as drones, for acquiring data. With the advent of smaller UAS components, and changes to regulations in the national airspace, this area is opening rapidly. We have been leveraging our experience in remote sensing platforms and bringing that to a local level using UAS data acquisition.
We are using these small systems for a variety of projects:
- Algae mapping
- Micro-topography mapping for surface hydrology assessment
- Slope stability and bluff retreat assessment
- Quarry mapping
- Groundwater/outfall in stream discharge and mixing
- Animal counts
- Ebee Sensefly
- 3DR X8+
- ERSL built Aquaspec
- DJI phantom 3 Pro
- DJI Flamewheel 550
These carry a variety of payloads including:
- MapIR Green,Red/IR survey 2 cameras
- FLIR Vue Pro thermal camera
- OceanOptics STS-VIS hyperscpectral spectrometer
- Phantom 3 Pro 4K RGB video
- Gopro format cameras
- Runcam Owl (lowlight FPV)
