In this course you will learn about geologic hazardous and their
related geological processes. You will learn about the structure of
the earth, and how this affects the Earth’s processes. You will have
the opportunity to do this through readings, lectures, demonstrations
and computer exercises. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate
your understanding through web based homework assignments, computer
exercises, in class clicker questions and exams.
By the end of the course you should be able to explain:
- What geologic hazards are
- The basic structure of the earth
- How that structure affects geologic hazards
- Basic processes behind:
- Volcanoes
- Earthquakes
- Flooding (rivers and coastal)
- Subsidence
- Mass wasting
- Impacts
- Climate Change
Required Text: Natural Hazards (2008 - Second Edition) by Edward Keller and Robert Blodgett (Pearson Prentice Hall). Exercises on the Hazards City CD-ROM supplied with the textbook will be part of the course.

Homework:
