2015 Spring Geology Field Trip (EEES 4980/5980)
Over Spring Break in 2015, a group of 9 students and I took a field trip to investigate the geology of the Grand Canyon. We met up in Phoenix, and headed out to Flagstaff, where we visited Walnut canyon and Sunset Crater. After camping on the rim of the Grand Canyon, we hiked down the South Kaibab trail to Phantom Ranch. The next day we hiked out of the lower canyon, and traversed over to Cottonwood. We returned to Phantom Ranch the following day. We hiked back up to the South Rim through Indian Gardens. After the Grand Canyon we visited Oak Creek Canyon, Meteor Crater, the Petrified Forest NP and Painted Desert NP, before returning to Phoenix.
