Carrizo Plain

 


After the 'big bend, the fault again swings northwest, swinging in from bottom, just right of center, and exiting image at center top.

 

 


The San Andreas cuts from bottom right corner toward a point left of top center.

 

 


The fault trace runs from just left of center bottom to top of image.

 



A careful examination shows some of the right-lateral stream bed shifts for which the Carrizo Plain is so well known.

 


Pinnacles National Monument is centered on a volcanic mega-breccia west of the San Andreas fault.  Parkfield lies behind us, as does Coalinga, where James Dean died after missing a curve on Highway 46.
