The Laboratory for Environmental Pathogens Research (LEPR) is a BSL2 laboratory dedicated to basic and applied environmental microbiology research with an emphasis on the environmental transmission of pathogens. Primary projects of LEPR personnel include:
(i) using traditional and molecular microbiological methods to track pathogens in the natural environment.
(ii) identifying the reservoirs and fate of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in the clinical and non-clinical environment.
(iii) combining genetic fingerprinting with traditional air sampling technologies to better characterize airborne bacteria communities.
In order to carry out our research projects, WE WORK WITH PATHOGENS. Therefore, the LEPR operates under Biosafety Level 2 (BSL2) guidelines. For everyone's safety, lab members and visitors must understand and adhere to the information contained in the “LEPR Guidelines” and “BSL2 Guidelines” links above.
